Don’t be thrown off by the “big” name, you might know it as the Kissing Disease. As obvious as it may sound, the causing virus is contagious and spread by kissing, coughing or sneezing; scary right? However, cases of adults being diagnosed with mononucleosis are few because they are already immune to the virus (thanks to exposure we got as kids). But, if you are struggling with it, just stay calm and try these 8 home remedies for mononucleosis

8 home remedies for mononucleosis

  1. Using coconut oil as a home remedy for mononucleosis

Here it all depends on your tolerance level; if you can mouth up to three spoons of extra-virgin coconut oil, well and good. However, if that’s too much for you, try at least one spoon daily.

Another trick would be to use it in your cooking, that way you won’t have to take it directly.

  1. Foods rich in Vitamin C

We all should know by now that vitamin C is an immune booster. Infuse it in your daily meals and you’ll be surprised at how many diseases and/or infections you’ll overcome.

  1. Apple Cider Vinegar

This should come as no surprise since by now you should know the health benefits of apple cider vinegar. It is a great boost to your immune system and so it should help speed up recovery.

Just mix 1 tsp. of raw apple cider vinegar in a cup of warm water, add half a spoon honey and mix thoroughly. Take this at least twice a day.

  1. Fluids

There’s no bargaining with the fact that plenty of water can act as the perfect home remedy to cure mononucleosis; just as it is to other health complications.

The simple golden rule here is to drink at least eight glasses of water every day, then take as much as you can. You can top that up with healthy fluids like bone soup, chicken soup, etc.

  1. Stay away from alcoholic drinks and drugs which are not prescribed

This is necessary because there’s a high possibility of liver inflammation.

  1. Rest well and keep away from straining activities

I wouldn’t be surprised if you have a hard time trying to relate sleep and mononucleosis. Since the infection affects your entire lymph system, the more you work the system up the longer your recovery takes.

  1. Garlic

I think this is one of the essential ingredients you should never miss in your kitchen. It has strong anti-viral properties that will definitely eliminate the virus. All you have to is peel one garlic clove, throw it in your mouth and chew the life out of it before swallowing it. Alternatively, you can crush it, mix with honey and swallow it. You can repeat as much as three times a day.

  1. How gargling can act as a home remedy for mononucleosis

I know gargling sounds just as tasking as it is, but if you really think about it, you are fighting the germs directly. Mix a half tsp. of salt with one cup of warm water (bordering hot). Then simply gargle this concoction for a few seconds and spit it out. Repeat as needed.
