How Much Sugar Is “Too Much Sugar”

Sugar. It is an important source of energy. All food we take contain starches and sugars and are called carbohydrates. During digestion, they are broken into small molecules of sugar. The sugars are absorbed from the intestine into the bloodstream. At the bloodstream, they travel to cells where they are used to provide energy for cellular functions. Sugar is such important in body but is associated with many health problems when in excess in the body.

There is a need to keep on checking the level of blood sugar in the body. For a normal or a healthy adult, the level of blood sugar is between 70 and 100 milligrams per deciliter. This is the range for a person believed not to be diabetic, and it should not exceed this range. After taking a meal, this level is expected to rise to no more than 140 milligrams per deciliter.

On the other hand, the minimal blood sugar level expected should be 60 milligrams per deciliter and never below. Levels below 50 are dangerous in which they are termed as hypoglycemic. Even after fasting, the level of sugar in the blood should never fall below 60 as the liver in healthy adults converts stored fat and proteins to sugar. This is so that to maintain the proper level of sugar in the blood.

Sugar Diet

A diet of too much sugar is not suitable for our health. Too much sugar in the body does not come upon with the one meal. The diet that one takes is what will lead to having too much sugar in the blood. There is a need to be aware of symptoms of having too much sugar and ways to avoid making much sugar in our blood level.

Weight gain. High sugar consumption will lead to too much weight gain. With sugar in the body, there will be a lot of unused energy which will be converted to into fats.

Low mood. Consumption of too much sugar will cause low moods and even depressions. One gets the sensation of the sugar high of which will result in more energy and improved moods so the normal state will seem to be severely low regarding mood and energy as a result.

Sugar promotes the growth of bacteria on teeth. This will lead to tooth looking g discolored and can make it highly sensitive so that it hurts when one consume sweet foods.

Energy spikes. Sugar is always readily available energy. Consuming too much sugar can result in a spike in energy that leaves a person feeling hyperactive. It is followed by an energy trough where a person is left with no energy at all and tired.

Consumption of too much sugar increases the chances of developing diabetes. This is through the strains put on the insulin in the body of which is responsible for converting sugar and glucose to usable energy.

Cholesterol and triglycerides. A lot of sugar will increase the number of triglycerides in the blood, and this increases cholesterol. This will lead to arterial plagues and can cause heart attack, heart disease or stroke. When cholesterol is high one may find feeling out of breath and skin may look blotchy and flushed since the blood is unevenly distributed in the body.

Conclusion

Sugar is such important in body but is associated with many health problems when in excess in the body. Take sugar according to the body’s need. Don’t skip it and don’t overtake it.
