Obsessive-compulsive disorder – OCD treatment in the past involved a lot of prescribed medication even though it was not entirely healthy. About 2 or 3 percent of the adult population in the U.S. has OCD. This condition can trigger fears, and obsessive behaviors in patients. OCD patients engage in repeated, sometimes irrational actions that they have no control over.

It is a condition that induces a level of fear in its patients, pushing them to engage in certain compulsions under the belief that something bad will happen if they don’t. Patients have the urge to maintain some degree of cleanliness around the home, even though it might not be necessary for them to do so. Some are compelled to perform their tasks in a certain order, and some have to repeat their tasks a certain number of times for them to feel contented. There have been cases where people with OCD have fallen into , or have had to struggle with addiction problems.

OCD might seem like too complex a disease to be managed without medication, but there are some natural ways through which patients can learn to minimize their symptoms.

Alternative OCD Treatments

– Therapy

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, in particular, deals with the issues being experienced by the patient in the present moment. This OCD treatment, without any medication, helps the patient learn about their fears, beliefs, and the root of their compulsions before helping them manage their OCD symptoms.

– Meditation

Meditation does not always have to be about sitting on a mat, in a candlelit room, chanting random phrases. If you have OCD, then taking 15, or maybe even 20 minutes in your day to sit quietly and think positive thoughts could be your form of meditation. You can do it during a walk, when taking a bath, or when listening to some soothing music.
It is all about calming your mind, even if just for a while, and giving your brain a chance to analyze your thoughts.

– Managing Stress and Anxiety As An OCD Treatment

Compulsions act in such a way that the patient is convinced of certain consequences if they don’t accomplish the task being forced upon them. OCD patients often get anxious if they don’t act on their obsessions, and by reducing the level of anxiety experienced, they could help manage their symptoms. Eating healthy to balance your hormones, exercising regularly, and getting enough sleep.

– Supportive Relationships

OCD can be an isolating condition. Patients often feel alone, misunderstood, and cut off from others. Talking about the challenges that one faces with loved ones, or people from a support group could help the patient feel comfortable and accepted.

If you have been diagnosed with OCD, don’t immediately run to medication. You first need to utilize the resources that are available to you naturally; eat a lot of fresh fruit and vegetables, but avoid foods like processed foods and conventional animal products as these might lead to a hormonal imbalance.

Natural OCD treatments are better for you because they complement each other; if you exercise a lot during the day, then you will feel tired and sleep better at night. This will calm you and reduce your anxiety which will, in turn, lessen your OCD symptoms to an extent.

Remember, don’t push yourself too fast; take it one day at a time.
